Social Media as Rocket Science

Curiosity’s touchdown on Mars was great theatre and a perfect topic for social media, but this week’s celebration that went viral was no digital flash in the pan. NASA fully embraced social media early by understanding how to use it to educate, inform and inspire millions about its important work. The agency uses Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Google+, YouTube, Flickr and UStream, not just to push out information but to freely interact with fans in hundreds of social media communities.
